My work this year is a conscious shift from how I have worked in the past. I spent last year painting portraits, so this year I decided to experiment with concepts and formats I hadn’t used before. While my styles and media were varied, my focus for the content of these pieces was the incorporation of poetry into visual art. This collection formed as I played around with synthesizing verbal and visual art. I found that bringing these forms together can communicate messages and moods more dynamically and expand my capacity for expression.
Artist Bio
Maya Parker, a current senior, is a born-and-raised central Virginian who enjoys appreciating as many art forms as she can find and participating in quite a few as well. She is generally fascinated by the ways humans express themselves and are able to connect with each other through time and space. Maya is excited to continue her artistic and academic journey at Bard College next fall.
